For years I have been using iConnectHue (App Store-Link) to configure my Hue system. From my point of view, the universal app for iPhone and iPad has only one major shortcoming: it doesn’t really look that great. The look just doesn’t appeal to me to use the app for the daily control of the Hue system.
Only a few days after the major update to version 4.14, developer Stefan Göhler delivers the next update for his app iConnectHue. Version 4.15 is released shortly before Christmas, and not without reason: It contains animations for the new Philips Hue Festavia. The string light is probably already hanging on the Christmas tree of one or the other of you.
To control my Hue lights, I prefer to use the official app from Philips Hue. To configure accessories, I have so far resorted to iConnectHue (App Store link). When it comes to configuring one or more Hue systems, iConnectHue for iPhone and iPad is one of the best recommendations the App Store has to offer. The app has definitely earned its price of 5.99 euros as well as the annual upgrade packages or alternatively the membership subscription. Version 4.13 of iConnectHue for iPhone and iPad has been available in the App Store since yesterday.
If you no longer want to control your Philips Hue lights only by voice command or by app on iPhone and iPad, there is now another option: After the launch of the Windows application, the well-known app Hue Essentials is now also available for the Mac. The download from the Mac App Store is free of charge.
That was fast: Last week Philips Hue released the new Hue Tap Dial switch, you could already read my impressions. Now the popular iConnectHue app also offers full support for the new switch. Before we get into the details, one small thing first: Existing customers might not get the update around the Hue Tap Dial Switch for free.
At least Philips Hue has a small update today. According to the update description, you can look forward to seven new scenes in the Hue light scenes gallery, of which only four are actually new. Miami, Cancun and Rio have already been available for a few weeks. Newly added are the scenes Blossom, Crocus, Precious and Narcissa in the “Refreshing” area.

I could have saved myself the effort, because with the update to version 4.16 Philips Hue seems to offer new possibilities. This new option is hidden in the settings of the Philips Hue app.
It is probably the absolute worst case that especially users with a large installation fear: A total failure of the bridge. Unfortunately, Philips Hue still does not offer any backup function, even almost ten years after its launch. This means that if the bridge fails and cannot be restarted, there is a lot of work to do.
