Community question of the week: Remote connection for second Hue Bridge

Control all lamps remotely

During the last few days, many exciting questions about Philips Hue have arrived in the community area and also in my inbox. Today I would like to deal with a request from Olaf, who sent me the following email:

I recently had to put a second Hue Bridge into operation, but I can't manage to activate the remote connection for the second bridge. With the first bridge, remote control works without any problems.

Unfortunately, this is something that is no longer as simple as it was a few years ago. This is because a separate Hue account is now necessary for each Hue Bridge. The good news, however, is that this is already the solution to the problem, at least for now.

What this means for you in practice is that after installing the second bridge, you do not enter your existing access data in the “Control while on the move” area, but create a completely new Hue account with a second email address. This will then be used for remote control.

By the way, this is not noticeable when using the app. You can easily switch between the linked bridges because the access data for the remote connection is saved in the background.

Check your local Philips Hue Online Store for availability of Hue products in your country. There you will also find all the technical information and prices.

  1. I’m not the first person who doesn’t understand why you can’t control two bridges remotely with one email account.
I have 2 bridges in different locations. I can switch between them in the app but adding 2nd bridge to “Out of Home Control” ends like this:
“The account you are trying to sign in to is linked to a different Hue Bridge than the one you are currently connected to”
