FabianI really couldn't think of a good story this time, so unfortunately the April Fool's joke has been cancelled this year. Instead, I have some really exciting news for you, at least if you are looking for a particularly bright E14 bulb. You can now get them from Ikea.
The Swedish furniture store has come up with the extremely innovative idea of shrinking the base on its Trådfri light bulb. The result is a classic E27 bulb with a smaller E14 base. The colour lamp is sold for 14.99 euros (Ikea Germany). Of course, ZigBee is integrated, making it easy to connect to the Hue Bridge.
The result is 806 lumens, which is presumably achieved with a cool white colour of 4,000 Kelvin. Unfortunately, Ikea does not provide exact details. For an E14 light bulb, this is already a strong value, as Philips Hue (and other manufacturers) usually achieve a maximum of 470 lumens.
Ikea naturally buys the brightness advantage by foregoing compactness. The bright E14 bulb is exactly the same size as a standard E27 bulb, so it has a diameter of 60 millimetres, for example. So you need to make sure that there is enough space in your lamp.
