Hueblog: Hue Secure contact sensor available in first countries

Hue Secure contact sensor available in first countries

New accessories for Philips Hue

I have another surprising piece of information for you, at least I would not have expected it today. In some countries the new Philips Hue Secure Contact Sensor is already listed in the Hue online shop and can be ordered there.

Unfortunately, I don't have complete information on which countries the sensor is available in. The best thing to do is to click into the shop, then you will get to your regional store. There you can check for yourself. I have found at least one variation of the Hue Secure contact sensor in the following countries:

  • Belgium
  • Denmark
  • Finland
  • France
  • Italy
  • Netherlands
  • Spain
  • United Kingdom
  • USA

Philips Hue Secure Contact Sensor

$39.99 / €39,99

Get peace of mind both home or away with the Secure contact sensor! Place it on doors, windows, cabinets, safes, and more with the included adhesive backing — and a receive notification or even turn on the lights when the sensor is opened.

Some of the Hue Secure accessories are already available, but the cameras are not yet on sale. If you are successful and receive a contact sensor in a few days, I would be happy to hear from you in the comments.

Check your local Philips Hue Online Store for availability of Hue products in your country. There you will also find all the technical information and prices.

    1. Matter is nothing at the moment. And adding support via the Bridge is the best solution. So you don’t need to replace all your old bulbs and accessories.

  1. I understand the cameras don’t work with HKSV, but do we know if the contact sensors will be fully available in homekit (post matter?) to trigger actions outside of Hue?

  2. Just received mine. Very responsive as one would expect with Hue devices. You can set it to turn off a light when closed and choose if you want to have a timeout on that too. So it can turn off the light after x amount of minutes even if the door hasn’t closed yet. I’m using mine to replace Eve door sensors for some closets. I’ve found eve to be flaky at times. Rather it just natively went through Hue.

I’m waiting to see if updates are available for it. You can select that it gets configured in a different app like Apple Home just like the motion sensors. But I have yet to see them pop up in the HomeKit app.

  3. Just received my Hue Contact Sensor in the UK and add it to my Hue system.

Curiously, while adding the sensor the Hue App refers to it as a “Stork”. Was this an internal project name for this product? I think the accessory name needs to be fixed, at least in the UK.

I have set it up as a front door sensor to turn on the hall lights automatically when the door opens but I am disappointed that there is no way to set a time period for it to be active. Ideally it should be possible to only turn on the hall light if it is dark. This could be defined by time (eg sunset to sunrise. or X to Y) or by using light level sensing from a motion sensor that covers the same area.

Perhaps when the entire security system is available there will be the ability to arm/disarm the whole system or individual contact sensors? I might be good to also include motion sensors for security too?

I look forward to software updates to improve the contact sensor flexibility.
