Hueblog: Third-party developers will also be able to control Gradient lights

Third-party developers will also be able to control Gradient lights

Even more possibilities?

A little patience is still needed until Philips Hue officially presents its new products on 1st September. I have already given you a small preview of some of the new products this week. More products are still expected, although some of them will only be available in October.

Of course, the launch of the Gradient products is particularly exciting. These are the Gradient Lightstrip Ambiance, the Gradient Signe and the Play Gradient Light Tube. You should be able to order these new products directly on 1st September, delivery of the products in Europe is scheduled for the middle of the month.

But what is this Gradient all about? Gradient stands for colour gradient and thus describes quite exactly what you can expect. The new products will be able to display colour gradients consisting of different colours.

In the Hue app, this is realised via the new dynamic scenes, whereby the handling is very simple: you select a scene from the Hue light scenes gallery and then press the play button in the room view to start the animation.

According to my information, developers who have already connected to the new API will also be able to access the gradient technology. It will be interesting to see whether they will be able to offer more options than those provided in the Hue app. For example, I would like to be able to adjust the speed of the dynamic scenes or to simply assign several colours to a multi-coloured light strip, without any dynamics.

Whether this will be possible right at the start of the new products is still uncertain. But in any case, we can expect a really exciting feature that I am really looking forward to.
