Philips MyCreation: Create your own ceiling lights from the 3D printer

As you like it

Do you find the cheap ceiling lamps from IKEA too boring? You don't want the same lamp over your dining table that has probably found a home with thousands of other customers? For some time now, Signify has had the right solution to this problem: Philips MyCreation. The promise sounds very simple:

With just a few clicks you can now design your own decorative lamp. Simply select the basic design and then personalize it by determining the size, color, texture and pattern of the fixture and the type of LED light source, including Philips Hue lamps. Signify then delivers the finished product within two weeks.

I have now been invited to take a look at the service myself. As I'm already well equipped at home, I asked my sister to create a design for me – after all, there are over 300 different variations possible. The best thing to do is to click through the configurator yourself and discover the possibilities. We decided on the following configuration:

  • Model: Double Arc
  • Size: L
  • Outer Cover Texture: Vertical Fine
  • Outer Cover Colour: Transparent Clear
  • Interior Lining Texture: Fine Layers
  • Interior Trim Colour: Metallic Blue
  • Cable cover: Satin White
  • Cable color: White

In terms of price, we reached 185 euros with the above-mentioned configuration. In the configurator I managed to get up to 215 euros with slightly different settings. But cheaper models are also possible: they start at 100 euros – and still you still have a good choice of colours.

Personally, I don't find the prices exaggerated. You also have to keep in mind that you get a custom-made ceiling lamp and not a mass product.

What I can say so far: the two-week delivery was kept despite the Corona circumstances, the ceiling light is well packed and the workmanship is excellent. You can get first insights in the following video. I will give you more details as soon as my sister has taken over.
