Hueblog: Ledvance will soon release a compact outdoor plug

Ledvance will soon release a compact outdoor plug

ZigBee variant with a recommended price of 29.99 euros

Even in 2021, there is still no outdoor plug from Philips Hue that can be used to switch a classic chain of lights or other electronic devices outdoors, for example. Ledvance, who have taken over the smart portfolio from Osram, have been offering an outdoor plug for a long time – but it is anything but compact in design. The actual socket is installed in a separate box that has to be connected to an outdoor socket via a power cable. This was not particularly practical in some cases.

I can now announce that Ledvance will be launching a new model on the market in the next few weeks, which will have a much more compact design and will not require any additional cables. Just like the Indoor Plug, the new Outdoor Plug will be an intermediate plug that you can put directly into the wall socket. Due to the IP44 protection class, the adapter plug is of course somewhat larger than the indoor models, the complete length including plug and cover is given as 98 millimetres, the diameter is 57 millimetres. The maximum switching capacity is 3,680 watts, the price will be 29.99 euros.

The ZigBee variant of the new Outdoor Plug from Ledvance Smart+ will of course be able to be paired with the Philips Hue Bridge. In this case, you have to do without HomeKit, although this is not quite as problematic for sockets. After all, voice control can be enabled relatively simply via Siri Shortcuts commands.

When exactly the new Smart+ Outdoor Plug from Ledvance will be launched on the market, I can't tell you at the moment. As soon as I have more information or I have even been able to try out the plug myself, I will of course get back to you.
