Community question of the week: Switching off the LED lighting of the Hue Bridge

Unfortunately only workarounds available

As far as the positioning of the Hue Bridge is concerned, you are unfortunately relatively limited. After all, it cannot be placed everywhere in the house, at least a cable connection to the home network must exist. In most cases, the Hue Bridge should be placed near the router. At night, you can expect a light show, as Hueblog reader Nina has also realised. She writes in her question:

“Even the much more discreet white light of my WLAN amplifier can be switched off. I haven't found anything similar for the Bridge. Is that really not possible? It's already quite blue…”

The bad news, unfortunately, is that the lighting of the Hue Bridge cannot be switched off, not even via any detours and the otherwise so feature-rich third-party apps.

Nevertheless, I would like to present three more or less elegant solutions, because I could well imagine that the question of whether you can switch off the LEDs of the Hue Bridge will also be asked in the future. Here are three suggestions:

  1. Simply make the three LEDs of the Hue Bridge invisible with an adhesive tape.
  2. Stow the Hue Bridge in a cupboard or cable box.
  3. Make a 3D print, there are several solutions on Thingiverse.

I'm looking forward to hearing your feedback: Which solution did you choose? Or does the lighting of the Hue Bridge not bother you at all?

  1. Not had need to do anything about the Hue Bridge, but I’m a big fan of Light Dims (https://www.lightdims.com/), and assume their White Dims would be well suited to reducing the brightness of LEDs on the Bridge.
