“Never change a running system” – this is a more than well-known wisdom from the IT world. The Philips Hue Play HDMI Sync Box, for example, has not received a single firmware update in the past year, with the last update dating back to 29 October 2021. If you have encountered one problem or another during this time, you might be helped with an update now.
On 2 May, Philips Hue released firmware version 2.0.5 for the Philips Hue Play HDMI Sync Box. The update notes list the following changes:
- Fixed an issue relating to losing connection to the Bridge
- Fixed an issue where the Hue sync box would still turn on even though Automatic mode was disabled
- General bug fixes and improvements
If you are interested in the Hue Sync Box and flirting with a purchase, I would recommend a little patience. Apparently, an improved model is in the starting blocks.

My Hue doesn’t see the update yet! How can I force it to?
No update for me either. I’m on version 1.8.3. Running a software update tells me I’m on the latest one.
No update for me in Australia. Is there a problem or has Philips forgotten how to do it given it has been so long?
Also on 1.8.3 and running software update just says I am up to date…
Me too still on 1.8.3 and running software update just says I am up to date… no version 2.0.5 in sight ! (UK)
Finally received the update automatically yesterday.
Me too, got it just now. Hoping this will fix the crashes.
Updated in Australia last night.
For me the Sync Box does not automatically turns on, when I start my fire tv -> AV Receiver -> Sync Box -> TV anymore since the last update.
This is currently very very annoying.
Since the last update sync stops always after approx 1 hour. When it is then activated again it continues without issue. Never had this with any previous firmware version.
