Philips Hue: Compact GU10 lamp with Richer Colors coming in August

The wait is finally over: starting in mid-August, the new generation of Philips Hue GU10 lamps will be available.

We did not expect such a quick release: after Philips introduced new Hue lamps with additional Bluetooth connection last month – which are already available in the USA with an E27 base – there is new information for the European market.

According to the information I have received, new lamps with Bluetooth will be delivered on August 15th. While not much will change for the E27 lamps and the white GU10, there are exciting news especially around the colorful GU10.

There has been speculation about it for quite some time, but now I can say with certainty: The new generation with Richer Colors and a more compact design is coming. Here are the most important key data for the new generation with ZigBee and Bluetooth:

  • Richer Colors for improved color reproducibility
  • length only 5.7 cm instead of 7.1 cm
  • 350 instead of 250 lumen
  • 5.7 instead of 6.5 watts

As soon as I have more information about ordering possibilities in Germany, I will contact you again in any case. I could imagine that there might be additional information available in the course of the week.

Besides ZigBee, the following lamps will be equipped with Bluetooth:

  • Hue White E27
  • Hue White Ambiance E27
  • Hue White and Color Ambiance E27
  • Hue White GU10
  • Hue White Ambiance GU10
  • Hue White and Color Ambiance GU10

The first conversions will therefore be E27 and GU10. However, there is no trace of new E14 models.
