Over the last few days and weeks, I have received an increasing number of messages about Siri shortcuts. These can be used to create practical little automations and widgets for the home screen of the iPhone and iPad, especially for Philips Hue. However, some users are now experiencing problems with this.
Following one of the latest updates to the Philips Hue app, the Siri shortcuts no longer work on devices with iOS 16.4 or older operating systems.
Siri shortcuts with Philips Hue: iPhone 7 and older affected
However, the restriction is not as great as it seems at first glance. After all, iOS 17 is not required; the shortcuts continue to work with iOS 16.5 to 16.7.
This means that only devices that can no longer update to iOS 16 are affected. In this case, the most recent Apple smartphone would be the iPhone 7, which was launched in September 2016. All newer devices can be easily updated so that the Siri shortcuts for Philips Hue work again.
Of course, there are no restrictions with the usual control via Siri, as HomeKit is used in the background here.
