Phoscon Hive: Portable battery-powered table lamp with ZigBee

Equipped with rotation function

Dresden-Elektronik has introduced the Phoscon Hive, a new battery-operated table lamp that can also be coupled with the Philips Hue Bridge thanks to its ZigBee connection. Even though Philips Hue already has two products of this kind in its catalogue with the two Go models, we want to take a first look at the Phoscon Hive, which costs 59.99 euros. The portable lamp can be bought in numerous countries on Amazon, including the Netherlands, Great Britain or the USA.

“As a portable table lamp, the Phoscon Hive is perfect as a mood light in the living room, children's room or bedroom. When the weather is nice, you can simply take it with you to the balcony or garden,” the manufacturer writes about its product.

Phoscon Hive is controlled by rotation

The Phoscon Hive has coloured and white LEDs, so it can display 16 million colours and shades of white from 2,500 to 6,000 Kelvin. The maximum brightness is given as 60 lumens, so the small lamp is more of a mood light. The battery life is 7 to 50 hours, depending on the brightness.

However, the manufacturer has come up with some ideas that make the Phoscon Hive a really interesting product. To switch on, simply press on the top of the light and then turn it. When switched on, you can adjust not only the brightness but also the colour temperature and colour by pressing and turning several times.

Also exciting: Although the Phoscon Hive only has an outdated micro-USB port, you can alternatively charge it wirelessly via Qi on a charging pad of your choice. That is definitely a practical thing.
