It wasn’t really a secret anymore, now the final details have been revealed. Signify, the manufacturer of Philips Hue, has presented the first indoor camera of its budget brand WiZ. Just like the WiZ lights, the camera relies on a WLAN connection and is not directly compatible with Philips Hue.
Compatibility is a good keyword. In addition to the direct connection with the second-generation WiZ app, the WiZ indoor camera is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. Unlike the manufacturer’s light bulbs, however, the camera does not have Matter support – and for a simple reason: at this point in time, the Matter standard does not yet include cameras.
The WiZ Indoor Camera offers these functions
The WiZ Indoor camera is equipped with an infrared night vision function that is automatically activated in low light conditions. A two-way audio function, image-based motion detection, a viewing angle of 120 degrees with full HD resolution and an SD card slot expand the WiZ Indoor camera’s range of functions.
When movements or noises are detected, you receive a notification via the WiZ app, where you can then open a live view. Practical: Directly below the live stream of the camera are the buttons for controlling the light in the same room.
Videos are stored free of charge for 10 days in the cloud or alternatively for the same period on an inserted SD card – in both cases completely encrypted. Individual videos can only be exported via the app. Should the camera or SD card be stolen, the videos remain encrypted there.
Although the camera has an SD card slot that allows videos to be stored locally, a paid subscription is not waived. This allows you to store recorded content in the cloud for up to 30 days, define motion activity zones and/or privacy zones in selected areas, or start a manual recording while the WiZ camera is streaming. The cost of the subscription is €3.99 per month or €44 per year.
Availability of the WiZ Indoor Camera
If you are interested in the new WiZ Indoor Camera, you can buy it from Monday exclusively at Amazon for 89.99 euros. In July, sales will be extended to other retail partners in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. From July, a special starter set will also be available, consisting of a WiZ Indoor Camera, three WiZ Lamps and a WiZ Shield Plus subscription valid for one year.
