After I was able to announce yesterday that Philips Hue has activated the new gradient functionality in its app, I can now finally introduce you to the first new product that can create a colour gradient: The Philips Hue Gradient Signe floor lamp. I was allowed to try out the black model for you, a white version is also available as an alternative.
I've already given you a lot of information about the new gradient function, now I can announce that it's a done deal: It seems that Philips Hue has started to activate the new gradient function last night for all users with app version 4.4. A further update is not necessary, the activation takes place “over-the-air”.
When I asked you at the beginning of 2020 what a new light strip should be able to do, over 40 percent of you answered that it should be able to display several colours at the same time. In the meantime, the Philips Hue Play Gradient Lightstrip is on the market, but it is specially designed to be mounted behind a TV.
When Lidl had a power strip with ZigBee on sale for just under 30 euros last December, the interest was really high. Unfortunately, there was a small problem: despite Lidl's promises, the power strip could not be paired with the Philips Hue Bridge. Müller-Licht made another attempt with the Tint power strip, which in my view was an absolute mistake: only two of the four plugs could be controlled via app – and only together.
The Ledvance Smart+ Plug, formerly known as the Osram Smart Plug, has enjoyed great popularity in recent years. Because even back then, when there was no Philips Hue Smart Plug, the smart plug had an excellent price-performance ratio. With the Smart+ Nightlight Plug, Ledvance has now significantly pimped the familiar design and also integrated a new function.

Even in 2021, there is still no outdoor plug from Philips Hue that can be used to switch a classic chain of lights or other electronic devices outdoors, for example. Ledvance, who have taken over the smart portfolio from Osram, have been offering an outdoor plug for a long time – but it is anything but compact in design.

Last year, Philips Hue presented the smallest smart light bulb of its kind to date: An E14 drop-shaped bulb. There was only one thing that many people didn't understand: The product, which is perfectly suited for desk or bedside lamps, has only come onto the market as a White variant with a fixed colour temperature.
If you look around the American retail market, you won't see much of the Innr brand already known here in Europe. No wonder, since the company, which originates from the Netherlands, has initially focused on the local market. But that could soon change. A few days ago, for example, Innr received ZigBee certification for four new light sources, three of which have a form factor that is very common in the US.
Last year, the time had come: The first Philips Hue switch ever, the Hue Tap, was discontinued. Although it is still available for purchase, the switches that are currently still available are remnants. However, the name Hue Tap will probably not disappear completely from the market. A new entry has appeared in the online store of an authorized Philips dealer from the USA.
So far, Philips Hue has been rather reticent about the exact details of the launch of the Hue Wall Switch Module. We do know that there will be a single module for 39.99 euros and a double pack for 69.99 euros, and that sales will initially be exclusive to the Philips Hue online store.
