FabianThe list of products we’re expecting from Philips Hue this fall just keeps getting longer. After discovering details this week about the new Nanoleaf module and the new kitchen lighting, we’re now moving on to a slightly modified light strip. The Hue OmniGlow Lightstrip will soon be available for outdoor use as well.
I’ve already spotted online listings showing the Hue OmniGlow Outdoor Lightstrip in 5- and 10-meter lengths. The indoor OmniGlow is also available as a 3-meter lightstrip, and I expect the outdoor version to be as well. That would align with the product lineup, since the Hue Neon Lightstrip is also available in 3-, 5-, and 10-meter lengths.
The LED strip itself is likely to remain unchanged in the outdoor version. This means we can look forward to the best outdoor lightstrip yet. With 840 LEDs per meter, the Hue OmniGlow produces an incredibly even light with no individual light points visible. Compared to Govee’s previous top model, Philips Hue is clearly ahead—including in terms of brightness. The Hue OmniGlow (for indoor use) delivers 900 lumens per meter, with up to 4,500 lumens possible.
What is Philips Hue doing with the power adapter?
Compared to the indoor light strip, the Hue OmniGlow Outdoor will primarily feature changes related to the power adapter and controller, as these components must be made waterproof. Most recently, Philips Hue has been shipping all new outdoor products with a 30-watt power supply.
However, the Hue OmniGlow light strip for indoor use comes with more powerful power supplies. The 3-meter-long version comes with a 40-watt power supply, while the longer light strips even come with a hefty 60-watt power supply. If the outdoor version of the Hue OmniGlow were to ship with a 30-watt outdoor power supply, the maximum brightness would likely be significantly lower.
Philips Hue used to offer 40- and 100-watt outdoor power supplies, but these are no longer available. So it will be interesting to see what they present to us in early September.
