Version 5.72.0 of the Philips Hue app has been available on the Google Play Store for a few days now, and the update has since arrived on the Apple App Store as well. Unlike recent updates, however, there are no real new features this time around. The update description in the App Store simply states: “Various bug fixes and stability improvements.” The usual, in other words.
Survey on Energy Consumption in the Philips Hue App
After updating and launching the app for the first time on my iPhone, however, I noticed something. A small pop-up directed me to a survey on the topic of energy consumption. Among other things, it asked how important the topic is to my household and how much I engage with it. The survey is in English and may also appear for you in the coming days.
The sister brand WiZ—which is currently being rebranded and will operate under the name Philips Smart Lighting in the future—already displays the power consumption of many devices in its app. Philips Hue doesn’t currently offer such a feature.
I’m not even sure if the bulbs and lamps have a built-in feature from a technical standpoint to measure power consumption directly. In my opinion, though, that isn’t necessarily required—it could also be handled on the software side. It would simply need to be programmed with how much power a specific product consumes at a certain brightness and color.
The survey currently running in the app at least suggests that Philips Hue is addressing this issue in some way. Feel free to leave a comment below sharing your thoughts on this and how valuable an energy display in the Philips Hue app would be to you.
How do I find out the software version my bridge is using?
I bought the bridge some years ago so I don’t know if it is upgrade able.
I am thinking of buying a motion sensor lamp but I can’t find any information about it. Can you point me in the right direction please..I am in the UK. Thank youv

Hue app, Settings, Hue Bridges.
Power: I have 80 Hue devices – 60 of them are lights. All but two are under 10W.
So – crazy worst case is 60 x 10W x 6 hrs = 3600 Wh per day (or 3.6 kWhr).
That would costs me 1 $ a day – compared with roughly 3 $ a day to heat and 3 $ a day for hot water.
But, of course, 6 hours per day is near maximum (eg: kitchen lights) while many lights are run at dimmed (ie: well below 10 W) and some lights (eg: laundry) may only see 6 hours per week!
So the 1$ a day estimate is likely 10 times my real Hue power usage.
I don’t want anyone wasting time trying to save me some portion of 10c.
There are bigger problems in this world.
I would far, far rather they spent the engineering effort on letting me back up my Bridge Pro to my Phone – so that when the Bridge fails one day, I have a ‘restore’ capability.
