As early as next week, Philips Hue will introduce a small adapter for Nanoleaf panels to integrate them into the Hue app. However, the focus will be on the newer Nanoleaf Shapes models: Triangle, Mini Triangle, and Hexagons. Independent developer Stefan Göhler takes it a step further with his app, iConnectHue.

Without any additional hardware, he has built a connection to Nanoleaf that supports not only the Nanoleaf Shapes but also the Aurora, Canvas, Elements, and Lines products. This essentially covers Nanoleaf’s entire LED portfolio—excluding simple light bulbs or LED strips.

When controlling Philips Hue and Nanoleaf together, iConnectHue ensures that colors are calibrated between the two systems and match as closely as possible. The Nanoleaf modules can be controlled in iConnectHue via the dashboard. Colors and color gradients can be customized, and you can also start animations and try out iConnectHue’s “magic scenes.”

Nanoleaf integration is still a tech preview

However, the developer also notes that this is still a “tech preview” that has so far only been tested with a small group of users. Not all features are available yet, such as importing scenes from the Nanoleaf app, Discotainment, or controlling Nanoleaf products via Hue switches. “According to current plans, Nanoleaf support will be expanded step by step based on the results and your feedback,” says Stefan Göhler.

The Nanoleaf integration in iConnectHue is not available for free but requires a Pro membership. The following features are also new:

  • Improved daylight based on time and location—it should now replicate the natural progression of daylight even more accurately (without accounting for clouds or air pollution).
  • Direct access to light timers via the (…) menu of a lamp in the lamp list
  • Search for scenes in the scene list

iConnectHue is available for download exclusively for iPhone and iPad and costs 4.99 euros in the App Store.
