Signify, the manufacturer of Philips Hue and WiZ, does much more than just smart lighting for our homes. Some time ago, I already reported on smart lighting in supermarkets and Signify is also quite active in sports. In addition to sponsoring the Mercedes team, the company is also responsible for lighting the temporary racetracks in Las Vegas and Singapore.
This year, the company has now also entered the world of winter sports. In cooperation with Planai-Hochwurzen-Bahnen and the ÖSV, the World Cup race track in Schladming has been equipped with floodlights. Last week, not only the legendary Nightrace took place on the Planai valley run, but also a giant slalom. Here you can find one of the races in the ARD media library. I can tell you from experience: it’s a really brutal descent.
But back to Signify and the lighting on the slope. This was equipped by the Hue manufacturer with a mobile floodlight system consisting of a total of 11 masts with 108 Philips Arena Vision LED lights. The light intensity is specified as 1,500 lux, which our Hue lamps in the living room cannot keep up with, of course.
The floodlight masts are brought to the slope by helicopter and fixed there with screw anchors instead of concrete foundations in order to protect nature as much as possible. “Thanks to the successful partnership with the Planai, all conventional lighting will be converted to Arena Vision sector by sector over the next few years,” writes Signify. So it’s time for me to go to Schladming again in winter – I used to go there regularly on skiing vacations a few years ago. Take a look at the Klemmerhof if the region is of interest to you.
