This morning, Philips Hue released another update for its app, version 5.17 is now available in the App Store. There is an exciting new feature that affects the home screen with the room overview. However, there is still a small problem…

Let’s first take a look at what Philips Hue is promising with this update. Specifically, it’s about this new function:

Got a lot of Rooms and Zones? Change the size of their cards so you can see more of them on your screen! From the Home tab, tap the three dots (…) icon, tap Edit Home tab, tap Cards and then Done.

New Hue function does not seem to be enabled yet

Unfortunately, I have not yet been able to discover this option on any of my devices after updating the app. So at this point I can’t tell you exactly what the new compact view looks like.

In the compact view, you should be able to adjust the brightness of a room or zone simply by holding down your finger on the corresponding card and then moving it up or down.

How does it look for you? Have you already discovered the new option after updating the Philips Hue app to version 5.17? If so, please let me know in the comments.

Over the last few years, I've become a real expert when it comes to Hue & HomeKit. I now have over 50 lamps and numerous switches in use. I'm happy to share my experiences with you in my little blog.

  1. I have 5.17.0 and am not seeing it either. As soon as I didn’t see it, I came to your blog for a sanity check and was relieved to find that you were reporting the same behaviour πŸ˜€

  2. I do have enabled the compact view.
You can have now 2 rooms or zones on one line next to each other. I think it’s again a nice improvement.

  3. I can confirm that now it’s possible to switch between two views – normal and compact.
On the Home tab simply click on “three dots” buttons, then choose “Edit home tab” option and click on “CARDS” on the bottom banner. By doing so you can simply alternate v between current normal view and the new compact view. Compact view simply presents two tiles in a row. I find it very handy.

HUE app on Android 14 phone, the new version 5.17.0

  4. Also on android 14, updated to app v5.17.0 and I have no option for edit home tab in the dots menu.

Is this regional? I am in the UK
