The Hue Secure floodlight camera presented in detail

To be released in the first quarter of 2024

In the first quarter of 2024, Philips Hue will definitely be launching a new product on the market: the Hue Secure Floodlight Camera. At a price of 349.99 euros, it is the most expensive camera that Philips Hue currently has in its portfolio. However, there are no big surprises, as it is actually just a combination of two other products.

The Philips Hue Secure Camera basically consists of a wired Hue Secure Camera in black and the Philips Hue Discover Floodlight, which has been on the market for several years. Both gadgets are simply attached together to a mounting plate on the wall and share the power supply.

Philips Hue Secure Floodlight Camera combines two existing products

This results in a somewhat dubious appearance, as can be seen quite clearly in the following picture. The Hue Secure camera adheres magnetically to the wall bracket and can therefore be orientated freely, but the power cable for the camera is routed around the outside. There is also an additional safety cable to protect the camera from falling down, for example after being hit by a football. However, this is simply screwed into the camera and does not provide any real protection against theft.

The floodlight, which can be swivelled just like the camera, has a maximum brightness of 2,250 lumens at 4,000 Kelvin. In standard white, the floodlight provides 2,050 lumens. Coloured light with all 16 million colours is also possible. This is hardly surprising, as the technical details of the floodlight correspond exactly to those of the Hue Discover.

The dimensions are impressive. I was able to pick up the floodlight camera myself during the presentation in late summer 2023, it's a really heavy piece of kit. The wall mount alone measures 21.4 x 13.1 x 4.9 centimetres. The floodlight protrudes over 15 centimetres from the wall and is 22 centimetres wide.

Camera and floodlight are two individual devices in the Hue app

In the Hue app, the camera and floodlight are treated as two completely separate devices. In any case, there is still no automatic link that automatically triggers a light alarm in the event of known movement. But I am sure that this is something that Philips Hue will take care of in the coming months.

If there is an opportunity for me to install the Hue Secure floodlight camera myself after its release, I will of course be in touch with a short report on my experiences.
