When Philips Hue invited me to the Gamescom in Cologne a few weeks ago, I was already expecting a new product releases. I was already well informed about the Hue Entertainment partnership with Razor, so that couldn’t have been the reason.
One day before Gamescom starts, the cat is out of the bag. Philips Hue is starting a new series of lights for gamers by the name Hue Play. After a first look at their technical specifications I have to say: These new products are probably not only interesting for gamers.
Philips Hue Play Lightbar can be flexibly mounted
At the heart of the new Play series is the Philips Hue White and Color Ambiance Play Lightbar: a small light strip with 16 million colours and a light output of up to 530 lumens at 6 watts.
Exciting are the connection capabilities of the new Philips Hue Play Lightbar, which will be available with a white or black frame. A number of accessories are included, such as a wall bracket or a stand. This means that the lamp can not only be positioned at a suitable spot, but can also be mounted on the wall or even on the back of the TV with an adhesive pad.
Furthermore, up to three Play lamps can be operated on one power supply unit, and an extension cable is also available. Besides the basic set, there are additional extensions without power supply, which are a bit cheaper. The prices are 69.99 Euros for a basic set and 59.99 Euros for an extension. Within the framework of the pre-order price guarantee, it might get a bit cheaper.
On Tuesday, I will hopefully be able to try out Hue Play for myself and of course I’ll have another chance to talk to you. Still, a little more patience is needed until you’ll be able to install the new lights in your home: market launch is planned for 15 October.
