This autumn, it is hopefully time: The new smart home standard Matter is to launch and be able to connect a wide variety of devices. At the same time, we users should be able to decide for ourselves which apps we want to use to control the system. The Matter standard will also support Philips Hue – but not directly via the light bulbs, only via the bridge.

At least Philips Hue has a small update today. According to the update description, you can look forward to seven new scenes in the Hue light scenes gallery, of which only four are actually new. I already announced it last week, but now the time has come: Philips Hue has increased the recommended retail prices for its products. The manufacturer is now charging up to 16.67 percent more for its products. The prices have already been adjusted in the official online shop at philips-hue.com. As of 1 May, retailers will also have to pay more for the purchase of Hue products, and the price increase should then also be noticeable in the coming weeks in the retail market.
Already at the beginning of the year I could tell you that Philips Hue has made some of its products more expensive. In January, it was mainly the outdoor products that were affected, but also the “simple” Lightstrip Plus and the corresponding extension. Now I have bad news for you again: The prices of almost all other products will also be increased.
To start the new week, here is another small update from the overcast week. Shortly after the update to version 4.16 of the Hue app, another new version was released: Philips Hue 4.16.1. With this small bugfix update, a new feature seems to have been unlocked in the Discover section – a demo mode.
Only last week, I explained in a small guide how to control several bridges on the go – until now, it was necessary to set up several Hue accounts. I could have saved myself the effort, because with the update to version 4.16 Philips Hue seems to offer new possibilities. This new option is hidden in the settings of the Philips Hue app.
Yesterday evening Philips Hue released another update of its official app, the update description reads more than sober: “Bug fixes and performance improvements”, it says in the App Store. But beyond that, there are some new things to discover. There are some new scenes – and finally a flamingo in the Hue app.
