Today Philips Hue has released another update of its app. What’s new in version 4.22 and other interesting details are hidden in the update, you can find out in this article.
First of all, let’s take a look at the official release notes that Philips Hue provides in the App Store. They describe the new features quite compactly and well.
- Create a new type of Entertainment area for PC gaming setups. Prep your battle stations!
- You can now search the Hue scene gallery by name or category.
Both features that are pretty self-explanatory. However, there are some question marks around the new Entertainment category in particular, as there are no new features associated with its introduction so far. Basically, it’s just a different look.
But I do find the fact that there is now a “PC setup” interesting. Especially the following graphic:
You can see a PC screen there, which does not seem particularly large in relation to the mouse and keyboard, presumably two Chroma models from Razor are illustrated here. It is all the more astonishing that on the left edge of the monitor a colour gradient with two colours is displayed, which seems to continue in the upper area.
Now you might think that two Play Lightbars are placed there. However, one lightbar is already 25 centimetres long, so the monitor would have to be at least 50 centimetres high. That simply doesn’t fit together.
Even though I don’t really have anything conclusive in my hand yet, it somehow seems to me as if Philips Hue is preparing something here. The year is still long…
Looks like Best Buy got some wires crossed and briefly changed the 55” Play Gradient listing to the product info for the new monitor gradient strip: https://reddit.com/r/Hue/comments/wfhq9s/new_product_philips_hue_play_gradient_lightstrip/
The listing is back to being the 55” strip now (which hopefully means 250usd isn’t the real price for the monitor one!), but it had a full set of product photos and everything.
