Today I would like to deal with a small problem that I had not yet thought of. However, there are always letters on the subject, so a little advice can’t hurt. The problem is that newly created scenes do not appear in the switch configuration. Philips Hue has actually built in a little trap here.
Yesterday evening, Philips Hue released another update for its app. Version 4.29 is now available in the App Store. Attentive readers will notice that version 4.28 has been omitted. According to my information, there were major problems with this version, so it was not even considered for release. In the end, however, it doesn’t make any difference, because this version probably wouldn’t have offered any major innovations anyway – and now we’ll continue with the next update.
Before I take a look at version 4.29 of the Philips Hue app, I would like to revisit the topic of Matter. On Friday, I already reported that you can already activate the Matter beta on your bridge via the Hue developer website – mind you, this is a version that is not yet intended for the end consumer.
I’m sitting in my hotel room in Amsterdam right now. Yesterday I attended the launch event of the new smart home standard Matter and gathered numerous impressions about the new technology. One thing is clear: Philips Hue, which can already be connected to all the most important smart home systems, will not benefit as much from Matter as, for example, Eve Systems with its accessories that have so far only been geared towards Apple and HomeKit.
It was almost exactly ten years ago that Philips Hue was officially launched. On 30 October 2012, Signify, then still operating under the name Philips Lighting, introduced the first starter set consisting of three E27 light bulbs and bridge as well as an accompanying iPhone app. As a real premium product, sales started exclusively in the Apple Store at that time.
On 3 November, the time has come: Matter is finally to take off. To this end, the Connectivity Standards Alliance has specially invited to a media event in Amsterdam, where various manufacturers will present their Matter solutions. It is supposed to become the new smart home standard. What exactly is Matter?
Not only with the update for the iConnectHue app – introduced at the weekend – you can call up little Halloween animations, but the official Philips Hue app has also found a place for the spooky festivities. In the Hue light scenes gallery you can now find six “spooky” Halloween scenes.

Today I would like to address a topic that was brought to my attention by Hueblog reader Klaus. He recently bought a new TV and had to move his Philips Hue Play Lightbars that were previously attached to the old TV. But this is anything but easy – and in the end fails because of a cent product.
Matter has been with us for several years now. Formerly known as Connected Home over IP or CHIP, the new smart home standard aims to make the connected future much easier. In principle, all the major partners from the electronics world are involved, including Apple, Google, Amazon, Samsung and Ikea. And Signify with Philips Hue and WiZ is also one of Matter’s supporters.
It is now almost exactly ten years since Philips Hue was launched. What started with simple E27 light bulbs has now really grown up. Year after year, the Philips Hue product portfolio has grown, and now you can easily equip your whole house and garden with Philips Hue. But is that the end of the line?
