Hue Labs, the former beta environment within the Philips Hue app, is now history. Almost all the functions that were previously only available exclusively there have already been integrated into the Hue app. Since the last update, motion sensors can also be grouped directly in the Hue app. I explain exactly how this works in this article.
I’m currently staying near Eindhoven, but for once not to visit Philips Hue’s headquarters. Instead, I’ve moved my home office to a holiday home for a few days. For this reason, I can’t give you a “real” impression of the new GU10 spots yet, but at least we can take a look at the technical data together.
With the update to version 5.19 of its app, Philips Hue has introduced several new functions, including the ability to combine several motion sensors into a group. For another new feature, however, I had to do some more research: “Start a ‘Go to sleep’ automation not only in the app, but also by pressing a button on a Hue switch or an iOS widget.”
On Tuesday, Philips Hue not only launched new products on the market, but also a new software version. Version 5.19 of the Hue app is now available to download and offers several new features. One of these is Smart Scene Mapping, which is explained as follows in the update description: Every time you set a scene from the scene gallery, it’s now mapped to the lights in the space and what they’re used for.
Philips Hue has released another update for the official app in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, which brings some interesting new features. Among other things, sensors can now be grouped together – a function that was previously only available in Hue Labs. Unfortunately, I have not yet been able to try out the features of the new version myself.
I’ve already told you that the launch of new GU10 spotlights and Lightguide lamps is imminent. However, Philips Hue probably has another new product in the pipeline, a bedside lamp to be precise. Philips Hue has already taken a similar approach with the Gradient Signe table lamp, which is also placed on a bedside table in a number of product images.
The Hue Bright Days don’t actually start until May 27, but you already have the chance to take advantage of great offers in many countries. There is a 30 percent discount on many products directly in the Philips Hue online store, and in some countries there are even additional promotions with discounts of up to 40 percent – ending on June 9th.
If you’re thinking about buying GU10 spotlights for your Philips Hue system, you should be patient for a few more weeks. Apparently the launch of improved hardware is imminent, and I have already been able to discover a new version of the GU10 spots from Philips Hue in some countries. Until now, only the simple Hue White spots, which only use warm white LEDs with 2,700 Kelvin, were bright up to 400 lumens.
One week after the surprising update with the new compact view, Philips Hue is already delivering the next update. Version 5.18.0 of the official app can now be downloaded from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. However, there do not appear to be any major new features this time.
