So, here I am again. After a little time off in the Netherlands, I'm back with daily news from the world of Philips Hue. I hope you still stopped by the blog last week, even though it was certainly a bit quieter. But there will be plenty of fodder in the coming days, because according to the official information from September, a batch of new Hue products will be launched tomorrow, 12 October.
Over the past few weeks, I have been able to provide you with some content about the Philips Hue Ambiance Gradient Lightstrip. In addition to my review, I also took a look inside the lightstrip and found out some interesting details. For example, the Ambiance Gradient Light Strip can not only be shortened every 25 centimetres as stated, but twice as often.
At the beginning of the month, Philips Hue announced it, and now, according to official statements on various social media platforms, the time has come. Although there is still nothing to be read in the release notes, which are never updated very quickly – it should, however, be possible to use the Philips Hue Play HDMI Sync Box with a refresh rate of 120 hertz with the latest firmware update.
The new Philips Hue Ambiance Gradient Lightstrip has really inspired me personally, even though it is anything but cheap with a price of almost 150 euros for 2 metres. Regardless of whether you focus on the functionality, the workmanship or the technology – the new release is an enormous improvement in all respects compared to the Philips Hue Lightstrip Plus, which will, however, still be available.

In the past few days, I have received a lot of questions about the Philips Hue Ambiance Gradient Lightstrip. Everything revolved around whether the new lightstrip can also be mounted on the underside of the TV to extend the “Ambilight” to four sides in combination with the Hue Play HDMI Sync Box and the Hue Play Gradient Lightstrip.
After I already took a look at the new big Philips Hue Gradient Signe for you yesterday, today we continue with the next new release. I reviewed the new Philips Hue Ambiance Gradient Lightstrip for you. It is the first real light strip from Philips Hue that can display multiple colours at the same time – if we forget about the Play Gradient Lightstrip for the TV.
After I was able to announce yesterday that Philips Hue has activated the new gradient functionality in its app, I can now finally introduce you to the first new product that can create a colour gradient: The Philips Hue Gradient Signe floor lamp. I was allowed to try out the black model for you, a white version is also available as an alternative.
I've already given you a lot of information about the new gradient function, now I can announce that it's a done deal: It seems that Philips Hue has started to activate the new gradient function last night for all users with app version 4.4. A further update is not necessary, the activation takes place “over-the-air”.
Last week, Philips Hue introduced its new products, including brighter bulbs. The special feature of the new E27 bulbs: they can shine with up to 1,100 lumens instead of 800 lumens as before, but still have the same form factor. Moreover, they are offered at the same price, the recommended retail price for one of the new bright bulbs is 59.99 euros, the double pack is available for 99.99 euros.
Finally, finally, Philips Hue has launched an E14 bulb in filament design, two years after the first E27 bulbs with the classic look came onto the market. So far, the new E14 candle bulb is only available as Philips Hue White Filament and costs 29.95 euros or 49.95 euros in a double pack.
