At the end of July, I already provided you with some details about the Philips Hue Tento. In the meantime, I have been able to gather my own impressions of the upcoming ceiling light from Philips Hue. The new model aims to score points above all with its comparatively low price. There will be a total of seven different models in white and black.
In Europe, the launch of the variants with a diameter of 42.1 and 54.2 centimetres is expected to take place as early as next week. However, we will have to wait a little longer for the smaller 29.1-centimetre version, which is not expected to be available until mid-September, probably in the 38th calendar week. There is still no launch date for the Hue Tento in countries outside the EU, so nothing more is likely to happen this year.

I have not yet permanently mounted the Hue Tento, but I will do that later. However, I have already unpacked the smallest model with Hue White technology – so I can give you some pictures and details along the way.
Philips Hue Tento is particularly flat
First of all, the flat design is striking. The small Hue Tento is only 2.5 centimetres thick, while its larger siblings are 3 and 3.5 centimetres thick respectively. That’s really slim – and Philips Hue has also designed the packaging accordingly. The boxes are really compact, which of course helps to save costs.
This continues with the material. You won’t find any aluminium or other metal elements in the Hue Tento. Instead, only plastic is used, but it is absolutely solidly made and, in my opinion, has no weaknesses. And at the end of the day, you don’t usually touch a ceiling light like this once it’s been installed.
One thing even better than previous premium models
And then I noticed something that Philips Hue didn’t have before. No screwdriver is needed for the wiring, instead the cables are simply plugged into terminals. In this respect, the affordable Philips Hue Tento is even better than the manufacturer’s expensive premium models.
No compromises have to be made when it comes to LED technology. The integrated LED strip ensures very even illumination and the brightness is also just right. The small model is bright up to 2,250 lumens, the medium version reaches up to 3,100 lumens and the large Hue Tento achieves up to 3,500 lumens. Also great: the top of the ceiling light is partially transparent, so that there is a glow of light towards the ceiling. This will certainly provide a nice accent.
As soon as I’m back from holiday, I’ll install a model of the Hue Tento on the ceiling again. So far, however, my first impressions are really very positive.
Philips Hue Tento
from €69,99
I’m starting to consider buying several of those (maybe 2 or 3, model 42cm) for a 18m² kitchen.
The pricing seems better than the Aurelle square panel I was aiming for and the ceiling additionnal lighting seems to be a nice touch.
Not sure how many I would need tough.
4 tento with the smaller model or 2 with the larger one.
I think 2 should be enough.
Seems a great light! What type of connectivity has? I see a bluetooth logo…but it has also zigbee connectivity like other hue product? or Matter?
It’s the same like any other Hue product. Zigbee + Bluetooth 🙂
Something Hue seems to be missing is a tiny infra red remote with 20 buttons that control the light color. It’s undeniably more convenient to change the color than having to pull out my phone, open the app, select the room and choose the color. Suggestions on overcoming this?
I think this will never happen.
Is there a smaller version of these lights or another model with the same thickness as this? I have a 50 mm cavity to put a light in but want the diameter around over 15 cm.
