This summer, Philips Hue launched two new ceiling lights on the market. The first is the premium model, the Philips Hue Datura, with two separately controllable light sources. The round ceiling light is currently available in two sizes. This was followed shortly afterwards by the Philips Hue Tento in various round versions, where the manufacturer’s focus is on the comparatively low price.
Further variants are apparently planned for both models. So far there are only round ceiling lights, but square versions are likely to follow soon. Philips Hue has already provided some information on this itself.
In the publicly available declaration of conformity, the following entries can be seen directly below the two Philips Hue Datura ceiling lights that are already available:
- Datura Hue ceiling SQ XL
- Datura Hue ceiling REC
With the product number it is then quite easy to find further information. The “SQ XL” model is a square version, 60 x 60 centimeters in size and up to 4,300 lumens bright. The “REC” variant is rectangular, 120 x 30 centimeters in size and up to 4,250 lumens bright. Neither of these are big surprises, as Philips Hue already offers this form factor in its Aurelle and Surimu ceiling lights.
The affordable Hue Tento is also available in other versions
In my opinion, the Philips Hue Tento is a real recommendation. You don’t need fancy metal on the ceiling – well-made plastic will do. And here, too, Philips Hue is probably not leaving it at round ceiling lights.
By chance, I stumbled across a listing on the german “Kleinanzeigen” marketplace platform at the weekend. A user there was selling a 40 x 40 centimeter square Philips Hue Tento. Officially, this ceiling light is not yet available to buy. Possibly a ceiling light from the beta test.
In both cases, I have no information that the new models will be available in stores in the near future. As soon as I find out anything here, you will of course read about it in my blog.
