Philips Hue teams up with German kitchen manufacturer

Smart lighting in the kitchen

If you’ve bought a new kitchen in the last few years, you’ll have quickly realised: Permanently installed lighting is pretty expensive, but it’s really not smart. It’s not without reason that I keep getting enquiries about which Hue products can be installed in the kitchen. Now Philips Hue has teamed up with kitchen manufacturer Nobilia to finally solve this problem.

In Germany and other European countries, you will be able to equip your new Nobilia kitchen with smart lighting from Philips Hue from the beginning of 2025. Every new kitchen will come with a Hue Bridge and a Hue Tap Dial switch in addition to the light sources you want, so you can get started straight away, even if you’re new to the system.

Initially, customised, colour-capable Philips Hue recessed spotlights for cabinets and a linear Gradient Lightbar will be available. Here is a first impression of the new hardware:

Individual LEDs are barely visible.
The power supply for the linear gradient lightbar.
Extension up to 10 metres possible.
A single module of the Lightbar.
The spotlights are permanently integrated into the kitchen.

I was particularly impressed by the Lightbars, which simply plug together and can be extended to a length of up to 10 metres. A 60 watt power supply unit is used, which enables a brightness of 1,000 lumens per metre. This results in a maximum of 6,000 lumens, which is more than any Lightstrip from Philips Hue. At the same time, a diffuser covers the individual LEDs and you have access to all colours and colour gradients.

In contrast to the permanently integrated spots, the linear Gradient Lightbar from Philips Hue would be a wonderful product to retrofit to existing kitchens. However, this new solution will initially be available exclusively from Nobilia for new kitchens. That’s a bit of a shame, don’t you think?

As it’s unlikely that I’ll be installing a new kitchen in my home in the next few weeks, I took a look at the new possibilities offered by the Nobilia cooperation together with Gerwin from Philips Hue. You can get a first impression in the following (german-language) video.
