A Reddit post drew my attention to a detail that I was previously unaware of. I’m all the more excited to hear your feedback, especially if you’ve recently bought a new Philips Hue dimmer switch. Apparently, the manufacturer has slightly revised the housing of the popular accessory, but not the bracket supplied.
The Philips Hue dimmer switch has become larger. If you just hold it in your hand, you will hardly notice it, but you can definitely measure the differences. Previously, the dimmer switch was 35.08 millimetres wide; with the new housing it is 35.31 millimetres. There are also marginal differences in the length (91.59 → 91.88 millimetres) and thickness (11.09 → 11.39 millimetres).
You can easily recognise the revised second generation of the Philips Hue dimmer switch from the back. Previously there was a twist lock for the battery cover, now the cover is simply plugged in and has to be levered open.
The problem is the mismatched bracket
But now we come to the problem of the whole story – and that is the bracket. While the dimmer switch itself has slightly different dimensions, the bracket appears to have remained unchanged. As a result, the switch no longer sits quite as firmly.
‘They wobble left to right slightly as well as pressing the hue button by the lower edge hard enough can result in them falling out of the cradle easier. The original V2 sit flush and seated fully flat, it doesn’t happen nearly as easily,’ writes a Hue user on Reddit.
Why and why? I have no idea why these changes have been made. I also don’t know whether the revised dimmer switches are being sold worldwide or whether only certain regions are affected. Please let me know in the comments if you notice anything. In the meantime, I’ll also ask Philips Hue directly.

I don’t understand why Philips hasn’t updated the font to Frutiger, the new font used by Philips. They have updated it on their packaging and in the app a long time ago.
New model here in Canada that is larger and doesn’t fit as well.
