Anyone who is a bit of a Philips Hue fan will have stumbled upon the name George Yianni before. The Head of Technology is considered the inventor of Philips Hue and looks back on the beginnings of the smart lighting system in a blog post. There are some interesting insights, which of course I don’t want to withhold from you on my blog.
Last year the Philips Hue Go received a comprehensive update, two months ago it was the turn of the Philips Hue Bloom. But another table lamp from Signify’s portfolio has not received an update yet: The Philips Hue Iris. I lean out of the window and say: It’s coming soon.
Only about one and a half months ago, Philips Hue introduced the fourth generation of the Philips Hue LightStrip Plus – with rather few changes. Some weeks ago I was able to inform you about an interesting project of the Chinese manufacturer Sunricher. They have created a Hue-compatible switch, which has exactly the same dimensions as the known modules from the Friends of Hue switches. The major difference: By using an integrated button cell, the kinetic system for energy generation could be omitted, making the switch much quieter.
With today’s update of iConnectHue (App Store Link) to version 4.2 there are exciting news. The team around the developer Stefan Göhler has integrated a weekend mode, which gives you even more possibilities to configure switches, motion sensors and geofencing. In this way, a switch or motion sensor can operate differently on weekdays than on weekends.

In my search for new ZigBee products that can be connected with the Philips Hue Bridge, I came across a Giderwel light strip a few days ago. The LightStrip, which is just under two meters long, costs just 28.99 euros – only about half of what you paid for the Philips Hue LightStrip Plus in good times.
Last week, the colleagues from Lampenwelt.de approached me and offered me to try a portable LED light with rechargeable battery. Of course I didn’t let them tell me twice and decided to try the Yeelight Candela, which can also be controlled via an app thanks to Bluetooth. The table lamp is approximately 19.5 centimetres high and about 7.5 centimetres wide.

Almost exactly one year ago, the first filament lamps came on the market that can be coupled with the Philips Hue Bridge thanks to ZigBee connection. Even before Philips Hue launched its own products in September, the Dutch manufacturer Innr supplied us with the lamps in a vintage look. Even though more and more users want filament lamps with an E14 base, the vintage lamps are currently only available with an E27 base.
