Finally the time has come: Philips Hue has introduced new products. As of today, the first new light sources and also a new switch are already available, and more new products are to be launched by late summer. And as I can already announce: What Philips Hue has shown today will not be all for the year 2022.
This autumn, it is hopefully time: The new smart home standard Matter is to launch and be able to connect a wide variety of devices. At the same time, we users should be able to decide for ourselves which apps we want to use to control the system. The Matter standard will also support Philips Hue – but not directly via the light bulbs, only via the bridge.
For some time now, Philips Hue has been working on making its separate apps redundant. Since the end of February, it has been possible to pair Hue lights within the Hue app via Bluetooth and no longer have to use the separate Bluetooth app. Back in March, I reported that Philips Hue had also started work on integrating the Sync Box into the regular Hue app.
After several months of work, Stefan Göhler releases version 4.11 of his popular iConnectHue application (App Store link) for iPhone and iPad this afternoon. Included are 700 individual changes and, of course, numerous new functions. The update is worthwhile especially for users with many rooms, zones and perhaps even several bridges.
Actually, it was supposed to be released in April, but after a few days of delay, it is finally here: the firmware update for the Philips Hue Play Lightbar that many users have been eagerly awaiting. With the new software, the sometimes occurring annoying noises should be a thing of the past.
At least Philips Hue has a small update today. According to the update description, you can look forward to seven new scenes in the Hue light scenes gallery, of which only four are actually new. Miami, Cancun and Rio have already been available for a few weeks. Newly added are the scenes Blossom, Crocus, Precious and Narcissa in the “Refreshing” area.
In February, I already drew your attention to Jakob Lykke’s project. The developer from Denmark has built a web interface with which you can control the lamps of a Hue Bridge via the browser. Now there is news about the Hue Controller. Via this website, the small software package can no longer only be run directly in the browser, but can also be downloaded as a small mini-app to the Windows PC or Mac.

I already announced it last week, but now the time has come: Philips Hue has increased the recommended retail prices for its products. The manufacturer is now charging up to 16.67 percent more for its products. The prices have already been adjusted in the official online shop at philips-hue.com. As of 1 May, retailers will also have to pay more for the purchase of Hue products, and the price increase should then also be noticeable in the coming weeks in the retail market.
Already at the beginning of the year I could tell you that Philips Hue has made some of its products more expensive. In January, it was mainly the outdoor products that were affected, but also the “simple” Lightstrip Plus and the corresponding extension. Now I have bad news for you again: The prices of almost all other products will also be increased.
Beeping Philips Hue products are a rarity, but with the sheer number of products sold, it is noticeable. Recently, it was mainly the Play Lightbars that caused problems. Already a few weeks ago, Philips Hue admitted to this error, which can cause a beeping sound with the Play Lightbars, especially with very bright light settings.
