It could have been so beautiful: The Philips Hue Wall Switch Module is a real problem solver. It turns a classic light switch, the biggest enemy of the Hue light bulbs so far, into a smart light switch, which then no longer controls the power supply but sends commands to the Hue Bridge.
About a month ago, the Philips Hue Wall Switch Module was launched and now the corresponding update for iConnectHue (App Store-Link) is finally available. The app for iPhone and iPad is one of the best tools when it comes to configuring the Hue system. And of course it offers more possibilities around the new wall switch module than the regular Philips Hue app does.
The Philips Hue wall switch module not only works with classic light switches, but also with pushbuttons. Even though this is not advertised by Philips Hue in a big way, you even benefit from an additional function when using a push button: In addition to activating scenes, the light can also be dimmed by holding the button.
After the Philips Hue Wall Switch Module launched three weeks ago, the app scene got moving for the first time last week: Hue Essentials delivered initial support for the new accessory. However, I quickly had to find out: The whole implementation is not yet really suitable for practical use. I am all the more curious to see how things stand with the most popular app for iPhone and iPad.

Since the weekend, the third-party app Hue Essentials offers initial support for the Philips Hue Wall Switch Module. I found some time this morning to take a closer look at the update and would like to tell you about my first impressions. And unfortunately, they are not positive, even though I would have liked them to be.
While I’m waiting for the last responses around the reader test for the new Hue Wall Switch Module, I unfortunately have bad news for you: Availability will remain poor in the coming weeks. Currently, the new accessory is sold out in many countries in Europe, if at all, only a few single packs are available At this point, it’s not likely that this situation will change in the near future – and if it does, it would be a welcome surprise.
I have been using the new Philips Hue wall switch module for a week now, and some of you have already received your orders from last week. Currently there seem to be a few single sets available in the online shop of Philips Hue, regarding the availability of the double pack I am still waiting for an official feedback from the manufacturer.

For me, the Philips Hue Wall Switch Module is the most exciting new Hue product in recent years. After all, it solves a problem that has existed since the start of Philips Hue almost ten years ago. However, Philips Hue has not yet got to grips with another problem: Availability in its own online shop.

It could have all been so nice on Tuesday: Philips Hue introduces the wall switch module in its own store, you buy it and a few days later it is delivered. In virtually all European countries, however, you could buy the new accessory only for a few hours. Currently it is “temporarily out of stock” in Germany, in some other countries it could be ordered again this morning.
Since yesterday, the Philips Hue Wall Switch Module is officially sold in the manufacturer’s online shop. I’d rather not judge the shopping experience now, at the moment the Wall Switch Module is not available to order either as a single or double pack. Unfortunately, I cannot judge to what extent the availability will change for the better in the next few hours or days.
