If you’re on the lookout for the Philips Hue Play HDMI Sync Box 8K while Christmas shopping, you might find yourself rubbing your eyes in amazement. No, there isn’t yet another new version of the small HDMI box from Philips Hue, just new packaging.
Update on December 9
Philips Hue just contacted me and informed me that there will be no changes to the packaging. My guess: A design idea slipped through somewhere and ended up on Amazon…
With the introduction of the Hue Play Wallwasher in the summer, the manufacturer began placing its own name more prominently on the packaging. The brand name “Philips,” on the other hand, is now significantly smaller.
This same change has now been made to the Hue Play HDMI Sync Box 8k. At the same time, the opportunity has been taken to completely revamp the packaging design. Instead of just showing the bare device, a large lifestyle image is now used. The Sync Box itself takes a back seat, replaced by a TV, light bar, gradient light tube, and a stylish color gradient on the wall. The shape of the packaging has also changed slightly.
However, the contents are likely to remain unchanged. In addition to the Sync Box, you get a power supply with EU and UK plugs and an HDMI cable. I am not aware of any changes from a technical point of view either.
