I currently have a few projects in the works involving Philips Hue. Among other things, I wanted to install a ten-meter-long Hue OmniGlow Lightstrip vertically across three floors in our stairwell. I also want to compare the image quality of the standard Hue Secure Camera with that of the Hue Secure Camera 2K. And that brings us straight to the topic at hand.
The 2K resolution is currently only available in the wired version of the Hue Secure Camera. According to my information, there will soon be an upgrade to 2K resolution for the wireless Hue Secure Camera with battery. A possible launch date would be January, which Philips Hue has frequently used in the past for new outdoor products.
On paper, it’s easy to explain: the resolution has been increased by 75 percent. Instead of 1080p and 1,920 x 1,080 pixels, the Hue Secure cameras with 2K resolution offer exactly 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. As I mentioned at the beginning, I will find out exactly what this means in practice for you.
While the wireless Hue Secure Camera 2K is currently being prepared for its official launch, I unfortunately don’t have any new information about the Hue Floodlight Camera. This surprises me a little, because after all, the camera is not permanently connected to the rest of the hardware and could actually be easily replaced.
Previous problems with the wireless Hue Secure Camera
I don’t want to gloss over the fact that there have been more than a few battery problems with Hue Secure since its launch two years ago. In some cases, the cameras discharged within hours. Since November 2023, Philips Hue has released twelve firmware updates for Hue Secure that have addressed the battery and battery life issues. So we can say that they are working on it.

Great insight into the upcoming 2K upgrade for the wireless Hue Secure Camera. The resolution jump from 1080p to 2K should make a noticeable difference in clarity, especially for security use. I also appreciate the honest mention of past battery issues and firmware improvements it shows real progress from Philips Hue. Looking forward to seeing real-world image comparisons once the wireless 2K version officially launches.
