More than eight years after the launch of Philips Hue, there is finally a solution to probably the biggest problem of the system. With the new Philips Hue Wall Switch Module, all classic light switches can be integrated into the system. The in-wall switch presented today is to be launched on the market in a few weeks at what I consider a fair price.
About one and a half years ago, Philips Hue started to equip its light sources with Bluetooth in addition to ZigBee. Most recently, numerous products were equipped with the additional wireless connection last summer, including the popular Philips Hue Lightstrip Plus. Another product, however, still seems to be waiting for an update: the Philips Hue Play Lightbar.
It’s been half a year since the new Philips Hue Lightstrip Plus with Bluetooth support hit the market. Apart from the additional wireless technology and the ability to reconnect cut-off parts with a connector, nothing significant has changed. But there is one problem: The new Lightstrip Plus cannot be connected with old extensions and the old Lightstrip Plus without Bluetooth is not compatible with the new extensions.

Just over two months ago, the Philips Hue Play Gradient Lightstrip hit the market. It is the perfect partner for the HDMI Sync Box, but in truth there is much more to it. With the light strip that can display multiple colours at the same time, Philips Hue has developed a technology that can bring us a lot more joy in the future – even outside of entertainment mode with the Sync Box.
Normally, converting a floor lamp is not particularly difficult: you unscrew the old bulbs and insert Philips Hue lamps. This is done within a few seconds and works perfectly. But what if you cannot simply remove the bulbs from the floor lamp, for example because they are permanently installed or have a certain form factor?
In the meanwhile, there are numerous manufacturers and suppliers who, thanks to the ZigBee standard, bring lamps onto the market that can be coupled relatively easily with the Philips Hue Bridge. This is also the case with the smart lamps from Hornbach, which are marketed under the name Flair Viyu. In November, three new light bulbs came onto the market, including a filament bulb.
Yesterday I already briefly addressed the topic of Christmas lighting with the DIY project of Hueblog reader Marius, now I would like to intensify it once again. The question of the questions is: Why is there actually no Christmas lighting from Philips Hue? I will certainly not be able to provide you with the answer to this question, because it is hidden in the heads of probably important managers in Eindhoven, where Signify is based.

As you may have seen in the leaflet of your supermarket, Lidl is now selling smart lighting products. Thanks to the ZigBee wireless standard, these should also be able to be connected to the Hue Bridge without any problems, but especially with one of the most interesting products this does not seem to work: The USB power strip from Silvercrest did not want to couple with my Philips Hue Bridge despite all efforts.
