Community question of the week: Start dynamic scene via Hue switch

This important function is missing

In the community section on Hueblog.de Scillon asked a very interesting question. Unfortunately, I don’t have a very positive answer, but I have a hard time assuming that many users have already dealt with this issue and will probably continue to do so in the future. Here is his concern:

I have combined various Hue lamps in my bathroom into one zone and would like to control them with one switch. For example, the Soho scene at the first touch of a button. All the lamps then switch on in a nice colourful way, but without dynamic colour change. How can I make the scene start dynamically without having to press the play button in the app?

The bad news: Even one year after the start of the dynamic scenes, Philips Hue still does not offer the possibility to start a dynamic scene automatically. It is therefore not possible to start the dynamic scene by pressing a button on a Hue switch or by triggering the Hue motion detector.

It is also not yet possible to start dynamic scenes through automations. That’s a pity, too, because this is exactly the function I could really use for my four Lily spots in the front garden. A dynamic scene would really be a good thing here. Another idea: select several scenes, one of which is then randomly selected every day.

But back to the dynamic scenes: Until Philips Hue screws something on its own app, there is no chance. The only diversions: In the popular app iConnectHue there are numerous animations that come very close to the dynamic scenes. These can be easily placed on switches in iConnectHue.

Over the last few years, I've become a real expert when it comes to Hue & HomeKit. I now have over 50 lamps and numerous switches in use. I'm happy to share my experiences with you in my little blog.

  1. Yes, I am here as I’m looking to find this function that I see is not currently possible. Shouldn’t be that hard to add a single flag y/N swipe.
