Ikea revamped its smart home series at the end of 2025 and launched numerous new products with Matter over Thread. I have already tested some of them and paired them with a Homey Pro mini. You can watch the video here. But can you also use the Ikea bulbs from the new Kajplats series with the Philips Hue Bridge? I found out exactly that for you.
In principle, all new Ikea bulbs are compatible with Matter and can be connected directly to a Thread Border Router. However, the Hue Bridge (Pro) is not. The easiest way is certainly to control them together via a system such as Apple Home and an Apple TV. However, there is also a way to pair the new Kajplats bulbs from Ikea directly with a Hue Bridge.
Ikea bulbs still have a Zigbee wireless module
Even though it is not mentioned anywhere, the new Ikea products in the Kajplats series still have a Zigbee chip. However, this must first be activated. To put a Kajplats light bulb into pairing mode, you have to switch it off and on again 12 times (some models require 15 times). The light bulb should then flash briefly.
But even then, a direct connection via the Hue app is not possible. Instead, you have to start a Touchlink search. This can be done with Hue Essentials or iConnectHue, for example. It is important that you place the Kajplats lamp in pairing mode directly next to your Hue Bridge or Hue Bridge Pro when you start the Touchlink search.
Once the lamp has been found, you can open the Hue app. The Ikea Kajplats light bulb will appear there as an unassigned lamp and you can assign it to a room of your choice.
Problem when using Kajplats and Philips Hue
However, this does not seem to work without any problems. My Ikea Kajplats bulb with different white tones is incorrectly recognised as a colour light in the Hue app. I can dim it and switch it on and off, but I cannot change the colour temperature.
Unfortunately, I cannot say at this point how things work with coloured Ikea lamps from the Kajplats series due to a lack of test devices. If you have already had experience with this, I would appreciate your comments.
Otherwise, I would like to refer you to the Hue Essential series from Philips Hue. Especially with 4-packs on offer, the prices are very close to those of Ikea. In terms of brightness, the lamps from Sweden are slightly superior, but Philips Hue has the edge when it comes to colour rendering.

I have the color version for E14 and managed to add it to Hue the same way. It lights up beautifully, but I can’t turn it on or off. I haven’t found a solution (the bulb’s software is up to date), I’m not the only one with this problem.
Same here, Kajplats E14 Color. Can change color and dim, but not on/off.
Same here. But I don’t know, if software is up to date. I don’t have Dirigera hub, so I can’t make update if there’s any.
I got the same problem:
“I can dim it and switch it on and off, but I cannot change the colour temperature.”
Very unfortunate. Hopefully there will be a software update that fixes this. For now I prefer to use TRADFRI for colored LED’s (Warm/Cold).
I have problems pairing Kajplats E27 1521 lm with Hue Bridge Pro using the method that is described above.
Switching on/off 12 times get the lamp blinking so that part works, using Hue Essential Touchlink does not blink the lamp. So no pairing for me, what to try next?
Same 🤨
I got stuck at the same step as Peter. After 12 cycles of on and off it flashes but the “touchlink” button doesn’t do a thing. Using the 806 lm E14 thread bulb
I am also unable to switch the lights on/off in any app (Hue, iConnectHue, Hue Essentials, Apple Home, Google Home) – but I am able to dim the lights and change the colour temperature. It’s so frustrating because £5 for a WW E14 bulb is amazing. Anyone with any solution, or will I have to return?
For the pairing issue others face, on iConnectHue I put the lamp into pairing mode (12 on/off cycles), and when the app says “no lights found” I do it again and the bulb then pairs.
I Found a solution when I can’t turn it on and off, some will switch on/off some doesn’t. So I’ll follow these steps.
Reset the lamp to original settings (6 times on/off)
Put it in pairing mode (15 times on/off) send the touchlink command and pair again with hue bridge (1 or 2 meters behind each other)
Do these pairing mode one by one when the other lights off and had no power.
