Hueblog: Using multiple chimes with a Hue Secure Video Doorbell

Using multiple chimes with a Hue Secure Video Doorbell

Here are your options

Along with the Hue Secure Video Doorbell, Philips Hue has also launched the Hue Secure Smart Chime. Both are conveniently offered in a bundle, which I can recommend. In addition, the system can also be easily expanded with additional smart chimes. In this article, I’ll tell you what options are available.

First of all, installation is child’s play: scan the QR code on the housing, plug it in, and the chime will be found by the Hue app. After a software update, it was ready to use right away and connects directly to the doorbell during setup.

Hue Secure Smart Chimes can have different volume levels

Now a little magic comes into play: in the doorbell settings, the volume of the Hue Secure Smart Chimes can be adjusted for each time slot – independently of each other. This means that the door chime on the ground floor can operate at full volume in the evening, while the door chime upstairs in front of the children’s rooms can be set to a reduced volume (or even completely muted). However, the ringtone is always identical for multiple chimes.

Also good to know: the small button on the bottom of the chime only mutes the respective device. It might be practical to be able to mute all chimes at once with a long press of the button. Unfortunately, I don’t know if this can be added via a software update.

One thing remains unchanged even with two chimes. The response time from pressing the doorbell to the gong ringing is absolutely minimal. I’ll show you this again in my video review of the Hue Secure Video Doorbell later this week. So feel free to check back here on the blog in a few days, it’ll be worth it.

Upgrade your home security with the Hue Smart Chime. Get sound alerts when someone rings the doorbell, no matter where you are. It’s super easy to set up – just plug it in and choose your favourite tune. It works perfectly with your existing Philips Hue system, which helps keep your home safe, day and night.
