The long-awaited accessories for the Hue Flux light strip have finally been available for a few days now in Europe. You’ve been waiting especially for the corner connectors and flexible connectors. These are, of course, only compatible with the Hue Flux Lightstrip and the Hue Flux Ultra Bright. But what about the five-metre extension cable?

Philips Hue offers this extension cable to extend the 150-centimetre distance between the power supply and the Zigbee controller by 500 centimetres. The big question: can the Hue Flux extension cable also be used with the Hue OmniGlow light strip?

The not-so-stylish cable is compatible with other light strips

The clear answer is yes, the Hue Flux extension cable is also compatible with the Hue OmniGlow Lightstrip. And not only that. You can also use it with all other Philips Hue indoor light strips. I have successfully tested it with the new Hue Essential light strips, the Hue Play Gradient light strip and the Hue Solo Lightstrip.

However, the extension cable is not compatible with products such as the Hue Iris, Hue Signe or Hue Play Lightbar. For these, you will need to use the Hue Play extension cable, which has been available for several years – you can recognise it by its black design.

And while we’re on the subject of design, unfortunately the Hue Flux extension cable is not as white as Philips Hue depicts it in the official product images and on the packaging. Black lettering is printed along the entire length of the cable. If you lay the cable openly and not hidden away, this can have a negative impact.

The Hue Flux extension cable is now available to order for €14.99 from the Philips Hue online shop.

Conveniently place your indoor Flux or Flux ultra-bright strip light exactly where you want it. With its unobtrusive, minimalist design, this 5-metre extension means you don't have to worry about the strip light's distance from the power source.

Over the last few years, I've become a real expert when it comes to Hue & HomeKit. I now have over 50 lamps and numerous switches in use. I'm happy to share my experiences with you in my little blog.

  1. So I thought that if I connect the two 10 metre Flux lightstrips together, I could get away with only one power source – the five metre extension cable. I mean, it says that you could connect lightstrips up to 20 metres on the Hue website.

But no luck. I’ve used the official corner connecter, and connected it as it should. If I power up each 10 metre strip individually, that light strip works. But every time I try to connect both to the same source, it blacks out. Am I doing something wrong here?
