At the beginning of September, Philips Hue announced that the Tento series, which was only launched in the first half of the year, would also be available in a square shape. After the round models have been available for several months, the square versions are now also available. And they are at least as interesting.
With the Philips Hue Tento, apart from the LED technology, savings have been made in every nook and cranny. The packaging is absolutely minimalist and designed to be as compact as possible, the housing material of the ceiling light is simple plastic. Of course, it looks cheaper, but you wouldn’t normally touch a lamp like this on the ceiling. Not a bad choice in my view.
The square Philips Hue Tento is available in a total of five different versions, each with a black or white frame. Here is a brief overview:
Philips Hue Tento White
- 29.5 x 29.5 centimeters, 1,560 lumens for 69.99 euros
Philips Hue Tento White Ambiance
- 29.5 x 29.5 centimeters, 1,340 lumens for 89.99 euros
- 39.5 x 39.5 centimeters, 2,000 lumens for 119.99 euros
Philips Hue Tento White and Color Ambiance
- 29.5 x 29.5 centimeters, 1,340 lumens for 109.99 euros
- 39.5 x 39.5 centimeters, 2,000 lumens for 149.99 euros
The Hue White Ambiance Tento can be compared quite well with the Hue Aurelle, which is available for 169.99 euros in a size of 30 x 30 centimeters. With 1,940 lumens, it is about as bright as the larger Hue Tento, which only costs 119.99 euros. The bottom line is that you save 50 euros, but you also do without the dimmer switch included with the Hue Aurelle, which is worth around 20 euros.
The Hue Tento offers a significant price advantage
The price difference is even more extreme with the Hue Surimu, which, like the Hue Tento, is supplied without a dimmer switch. Here, the 30 x 30 centimeter panel costs 229.99 euros. It creates up to 1,760 lumens, so it is not quite as bright as the large Tento – but the price difference is still 80 euros.
The Philips Hue Tento has perhaps not yet made a big name for itself. From my point of view, however, the series is absolutely recommendable – in the Hue cosmos, the prices are absolutely attractive and there are no compromises in terms of lighting technology. I have already provided you with some more detailed impressions of the round Hue Tento.
There is only bad news for Hueblog readers from America. So far, the Hue Tento is only available in Europe. Unfortunately, I can’t say exactly when this will change.
