Philips Hue plans four new effects for its lights

Software to be further improved

I already mentioned that Philips Hue will be focusing heavily on software development this autumn. This will probably include the introduction of four new effects that will allow your smart lamps to light up even more dynamically.

Unfortunately, I can’t tell you exactly when the four new effects will be introduced. But I can tell you the names of the effects, from which you can already deduce a lot:

  • Cosmos
  • Enchant
  • Sunbeam
  • Underwater

These four new effects join the six existing effects:

  • Candle
  • Fireplace
  • Glisten
  • Sparkle
  • Opal
  • Prism

Some selected effects were initially only available for the Philips Hue Festavia light chain, but can now be used with almost all Philips Hue light sources. Last summer, Philips Hue also released a firmware update that enables numerous older light sources without a Bluetooth chip to use the effects.

Philips Hue Festavia String Lights

from $219.99 / €119.99 / £109.99

With 250 smart mini LEDs along a 65.6-foot cord, Festavia string lights are the perfect indoor and outdoor decoration. Create a gradient of color along the entire string, or use one shade of white or color to create a more traditional look.

  1. Cosmos and Underwater certainly are intriguing. I wonder what the general usage statistics are for people who are actually using any of these effects. I feel like most people probably don’t even know that the current ones exist. I could be totally wrong though.

    1. I know they are available but never use them except for perhaps at Halloween.
They are pretty useless to me in real use in a home.

It’s great Phillips focusing on software but all I’ve seen them deliver in the last 4 years are new “scenes”…

When will multi hub/one account come, when will settings backup/restore come, user roles for the app etc etc etc

  2. Philips Hue Lights lost me as a customer awhile ago. Having to login through their app made all my lights unusable. The bridge has trouble finding lights (if it finds them at all) then the connection is lost. All that money down the drain.
