Signify has had to take some criticism around the major update of the Hue app. In particular, the omission of widgets and timers has not gone down particularly well with the community. But also in some other places, more clicks have recently become necessary than it was the case in the old app.
A small warning to Android users: The Philips Hue app is currently not available in the Google Play Store. So if you want to reinstall the app, you currently have bad cards – the previous download link leads to an error message. I've already knocked on Signify's door to find out why the app is currently unavailable.
Exactly one week ago, Signify released the big update of the Philips Hue app. Version 4.0 was a big step, over 100 innovations and improvements were integrated according to the developer team. At the same time, however, some extras have been dropped, for example the timers. Others, like the widgets, have been replaced on iOS by shortcuts.
In a few weeks Philips Hue will release a completely new app for iPhone, iPad and Android devices. I've already given you some general info and a first look at the improved entertainment areas, but today we want to take a look at the automations. In any case, this is the new name of the previous routines.
The current Philips Hue app was released almost exactly five years ago. So it feels like an eternity ago, especially when you consider the rapid development around the topic smart home. But today I have good news for you: Signify is working on a completely revised version of the Philips Hue app.
It shouldn't be too much time until the Philips Hue Wall Switch Module is available in stores. Unfortunately, Signify has not yet communicated an exact launch date for the product, which was introduced in January, but officially it should be ready in spring (in Europe). However, thanks to a reader's email from the Netherlands, I can already show you how exactly the new module is configured in the Hue app.
Today I would like to deal with a topic that may have occupied you. At least if you use the Philips Hue Play HDMI Sync Box. The Hue Sync App is required to use it, but the entertainment area is still set up and managed via the normal Hue App. Last year, the Philips Hue Bluetooth App was also added, allowing newcomers to control up to ten lamps via direct connection.

As a user of more than 50 lamps, I'm usually not a candidate for the Bluetooth app, which only allows you to pair up to 10 lamps. However, it is worth having a look into the Bluetooth app, because there is a tile view for some time now. I wonder: Would this design be something for the “real” Hue-App?
