Philips Hue 5.29: Still without multi-bridge support

What's new in the app

This afternoon, Philips Hue released another update for its app, version 5.29 is now available to download from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Unfortunately, this is still without the previously announced multi-bridge support that so many of us are waiting for.

There are still two months to go, as the function is still due to arrive in 2024 – at least that’s what the manufacturer announced at the beginning of September. It is unlikely that such a major function will be released just before Christmas, so I expect multi-bridge support to be launched by the end of November.

With the update to version 5.29, Philips Hue is nevertheless providing us with some new functions. There is an exciting new option on iPhone and iPad, as you can start the presence simulation (Mimic Presence) and timer via a widget on the home screen without having to open the app. You first have to create the desired automation in the app and can then edit the widget on the home screen.

Some little things for Philips Hue Secure

You may have recently bought a Hue Secure camera, as they are currently on sale and have never been cheaper. Now there are some minor software improvements.

For privacy reasons, the snapshot of your camera is now blurred while the app connects to your camera. In addition, the Wi-Fi signal strength of the camera is now visible both in the snapshot in the Security Centre and in the live view.

We are also expecting a major innovation for Hue Secure this year. It has also already been announced that the cameras will soon be compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Home. This will allow you to access the live view directly with an Echo Show, for example.
