On 3 October, Philips Hue released another update to its official application in the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Version 5.27 is particularly interesting for owners of a current iPhone and iPad, as it integrates a new augmented reality function. This allows you to try out numerous Philips Hue products virtually within your own four walls.
This requires an iPhone or iPad with a LiDAR sensor. This has been installed by Apple in the Pro models since 2020. Specifically, you need at least an iPhone 12 Pro (Max) or an iPad Pro from 2020 or later. The new AR function is not compatible with the ‘normal’ iPhone, other iPads or Android devices.
The new augmented reality function is hidden in the ‘Discover’ section of the Hue app. You can find it directly under the classic demo mode, which has been available for some time. The following Hue products are available in AR mode:
- Hue Twilight
- Hue Dymera
- Hue Slim Downlight
- Hue Tento
- Hue Infuse
- Hue Centris
- Hue Datura
- Hue Go Table
- Hue Play Lightbar
- Hue Bloom
- Hue Gradient Signe floor lamp
- Hue Ensis
Once you have decided on the model you want, the camera on your iPhone or iPad is activated and the LiDAR sensor scans the surfaces. You can then place the Hue lamp where you want it with a tap of your finger.
And this is where the magic really starts. You can move the lamp and even rotate it to some extent, something that has already been seen in comparable interior design apps. However, the virtual Hue lamp can also be switched on. In addition to several scenes and effects, you can also freely select colours. The Hue lamp then even lights up your wall or ceiling, which looks really great. Of course, all of this takes into account the selected colour and brightness.
Minor display errors only occur if you switch manually between day and night. Nevertheless, the virtual impression you get of the products is really fantastic in my opinion. Why don’t you try out the new feature if you have a suitable device

Wow amazing, as amazing as the mile long list of functionalities that are not possible after shutting down hue labs and not making app better for people who want more than turn on/off light with button
GREATT SUCCESS!
