Without a major app update, Philips Hue activated a long-awaited function on the server side on Monday. You can now find the “Do not disturb my scene” function previously known from Hue Labs directly in the Hue app. It can be used with the Philips Hue motion detector, with the Outdoor Sensor and also with the motion detection of the Hue Secure cameras. However, the new function is well hidden.
However, setting it up is not that difficult and at the end of the day, it even has a small advantage that the function is so well hidden. But more on that later – first, I’d like to explain how to activate the “Do not disturb” function for a motion detector.
- Open the settings in the Hue app
- Select accessories
- Select the desired sensor
- Select a time period under “Behavior”
- Activate “Do not disturb”
It is possible that the function is not yet displayed there. I saw it last night, but this morning it had already disappeared again. I think this is a minor hiccup that will end by itself in the next few days. The only important thing is that your Hue Bridge already has software version 1966117030 installed. The new feature is already officially advertised in the Discover section of the Hue app.
What exactly can the “Do not disturb” function do?
The way “Do not disturb my scene” works is quickly explained: the motion detector only reacts when all the lights in the room or zone are switched off. Conversely, this means: If you select a scene or switch on a lamp beforehand, the sensor will no longer react to movement.
As Philips Hue has built this option into each time slot separately, you can also make the setting for individual time slots. This means you may have to click once or twice more when setting up for the first time, but you also have more options.
