FabianA while ago I drew your attention to three entries at the FCC that showed a LightStrip in three different lengths. Now it is finally clear which product it is: The new Philips Hue Play Gradient LightStrip. A light strip that can display more than one color at a time.
But before you completely freak out and start looking for this new release in your next online store, I have to slow you down a bit: The new Play Gradient LightStrip unfolds its full capabilities only in combination with the Philips Hue Play HDMI Sync Box or the Hue Sync App for Mac and Windows.
In addition, the Philips Hue Play Gradient LightStrip will only be sold on the company's own website and at MediaMarkt and Saturn from October 6th. It will be available in the following three versions:
- 55 inch (for TVs from 55-60 inch) for 179.99 euros
- 65 inch (for TVs from 65-70 inch) for 199.99 Euro
- 75 inch (for TVs from 75-85 inch) for 229.99 Euro

How the Philips Hue Play Gradient LightStrip works
The Philips Hue Play Gradient LightStrip is connected to the Hue Bridge like a conventional LightStrip and can then be controlled in one color via the Hue app. However, it only shows its true potential after you add it to an entertainment area and activate synchronization, either via the Sync Box or the Sync App. Then the Philips Hue Play Gradient LightStrip can shine in seven different colors at the same time.
The individual LEDs are placed much closer together than with the normal LightStrip Plus, the maximum brightness is specified as 1,100 lumens. In addition, suitable mounting material for the back of the TV is included in the delivery. I'm already excited to see how the Philips Hue Play Gradient LightStrip will perform in practice, especially since Hue founder George Yianni has already announced that they want to enable the gradient function with a software update at a later date even without the HDMI Sync Box.
