Alongside the Hue Secure Video Doorbell, the Hue Secure Smart Chime is now also available. A digital door chime priced at €59.99 (shop link), which of course makes an ideal companion for the doorbell itself. I’d almost go as far as saying it’s essential, since the classic door chime in your home gets deactivated when installing the Hue Secure Video Doorbell.
But honestly, I don’t see that as a downside at all-because the smart chime from Philips Hue can do a lot more than a traditional, non-smart solution. For example, in the Hue app you can set up to 10 time slots with different ringtones and volumes. Super practical, so the doorbell doesn’t blast loudly in the evening when the kids are just trying to fall asleep.
On top of that, there’s a little button on the underside of the Hue Secure Smart Chime to mute and unmute it. Of course, you can also do this via the app.
Hue Secure Smart Chime works with MotionAware
Unlike the Hue Smart Plug, the Hue Secure Smart Chime can also be used with the new MotionAware feature in combination with the Hue Bridge Pro. If you’re missing a third light source in a room for a motion zone, you can simply use the smart chime for that. It might even be easier to place than a lamp in certain situations.
And Hue Secure is supported too. If an alarm is triggered, the Hue Secure Smart Chime can blare at a volume of 87 decibels. I don’t really expect that to send intruders running though—after all, a chime like that can be pulled out of the socket pretty quickly. That said, I’d really love to see Sonos integration for the alarm function, since that would probably have a much bigger impact.
In any case, I’m really looking forward to my first hands-on impressions – I ordered the doorbell bundle. And since the question has already come up: yes, you can use multiple Hue Secure Smart Chimes in one home.

Is it possible for a Hue doorbell to use a Sonos or any other smart speaker as a chime?
Alexa and google home yes. Sonos unfortunately not. Would be great!
If it’s true that it works with Alexa (I don’t own so can’t confirm), then if you have an Alexa enabled Sonos speaker it would work since this is exactly what I’m doing with my Google doorbell. I get from any Alexa Sonos speaker “Someone’s at the door” interrupt.
Can you use a Chime in a setup with lights and motion sensors and no camera? I arm my Hue system when I’m away but I don’t have any camera (very safe area). I just get notifications if there is motion. Do you think I can add a chime and use it as an alarm if motion is detected? I’ve no subscription.
