Philips Hue continues to work on battery issues with Hue Secure cameras

New firmware update released

I currently only have a wired Hue Secure camera in use, which performs its tasks reliably within the limits of its capabilities. However, I keep reading about problems with the battery-powered Hue Secure cameras in the comments and on social media.

What is particularly interesting is that not all cameras seem to be affected by the problems, some of which are considerable. Readers have already told me that one camera lasts for weeks, while another has to be recharged after just a few days.

Will the latest firmware finally provide a remedy?

At least Philips Hue doesn’t seem to be simply sweeping the problem under the carpet, as a new firmware update was released on May 1. The software version 1.2.32.976150 is mainly intended to address battery problems, as Philips Hue states: “We are introducing improvements to increase the battery performance and reliability of battery-powered cameras.”

For example, the system has been optimized so that it wakes up less often unnecessarily, which of course benefits battery life. It has also been ensured that the WiFi chip switches back to sleep mode properly, even if the WiFi channel has been changed in the meantime. In addition, a bug has been fixed where Hue Secure cameras with a battery no longer recorded events.

I am of course particularly interested in your feedback if you are using a Hue Secure camera with a battery whose runtime has been disappointing so far. Has software version 1.2.32.976150 changed anything? Does the battery last longer now? Please post your experiences in the comments if your cameras have already installed the update. Incidentally, as usual, this can take a few days, as Philips Hue likes to roll out its new firmware versions over several days.

  1. Why don’t you purchase a camera and test for yourself rather than asking real customers to do the testing? Moreover, who gives a damn about those stupid cameras? It’s been dead for a long time.
