FabianPhilips Hue has already inadvertently announced that it will be breaking new ground when it comes to the TV viewing experience. In addition to the Hue Play HDMI Sync Box and the Hue Sync app for supported Samsung and LG TVs, the Hue Play Screen Sync TV camera is also expected to launch soon. I expect this solution to be offered at a significantly lower price than the Sync Box. But that’s probably not all Philips Hue has to offer this fall when it comes to Hue Entertainment.
On its U.S. website, Philips Hue not only mentioned the “Screen Sync” technology again in an FAQ section but also casually revealed the name of a new light strip. To quote: “Check out Philips Hue Play gradient strip lights and Play gradient strip light pro.”
Attentive Hue fans will, of course, immediately notice that there is currently no Hue Play light strip with the “Pro” suffix. A subtle little hint at a new product.
What might the Hue Play Gradient Lightstrip Pro look like?
Unfortunately, there are no further details about the product yet. If you’re currently planning a purchase, however, it might be worth waiting a little longer.
The “Pro” suffix certainly points to improved technology. It’s even possible that the new OmniGlow light strip, which Philips Hue unveiled last year, will be used here. In terms of brightness and LED density, I’m not aware of any better lightstrip.
What else is on the community’s wish list? Until now, the Play Gradient Lightstrip has been limited to TVs with a diagonal screen size of 55, 65, or 75 inches. Larger TVs ranging from 85 to 100 inches haven’t been able to be properly equipped with a lightstrip until now. In addition, Signify—through its sister brand Philips Smart Lighting—now also offers a four-sided lightstrip for TVs.
